Exercise is an important part of staying healthy. Studies show that it can help protect the body from disease. But exercise does not just keep us healthy. For many people, it is part of their daily routine making them feel better about themselves. Getting enough exercise at difficult times, such as the present coronavirus pandemic (新冠疫情), is important.
However, some gyms and fitness centers are not open at present. In areas with stay-at-home orders,
exercising outside may not be as simple as usual. So, people are changing the way they exercise during this pandemic.
Beth Berglin is the director of a gallery in Miami, Florida. Before the pandemic, she went to camp-style classes four mornings a week. Now, the area where she trains is closed. But she is staying active through online classes. “Part of the reason we exercise is to have that mental break,” she said. “I can't imagine getting through this without having some form of physical activity?”
Fitness companies are changing to meet the new environment. Some are helping people stay active by offering online classes, some of which are free or have reduced cost. Some are offering longer trial periods for at-home exercise. During a trial period, people can try a product or service for free. Some have completely moved their training programs online. Many of these online exercise classes are made for smaller spaces and do not require any special equipment (装备).
Fitness companies that have been using an online model seem better prepared than others. They are using the pandemic to expand (扩大)their fitness offerings and attract new customers. Some of those new customers include children who are now learning at home during the pandemic. Founders of one online exercise company, named Obe, said that they received requests for children's classes from parents. So, they provided four 10-minute dance and strength training for children 10 years old and younger.

I was once a bored teenage boy student who believed that doing any more than necessary wasted
effort. One day this idea threw me into embarrassment. In Mrs. Totten's eighth-grade math class at Central Avenue School in Anderson, Indiana, we were learning to add and minus decimals (小数).
Our teacher assigned daily homework, which would be recited in class the following day. On most
days, our grades were based on our oral answers to homework questions. Mrs. Totten usually walked up and down the rows of desks requesting answers from student after student in the order the questions had appeared on our homework’s sheets. She would start either at the front of the back of the classroom and work toward the other end.
Since I was seated near the middle of about 35 students, it was easy to find out which questions I might have to answer. This time, I had completed my usual two or three problems according to my ability. What I failed to expect was that several students were absent, which threw off my estimate(判 断).As Mrs. Totten made her way from the beginning of the class, I tried hard to decide which math problem I would get. When I was a kid, I always used to wonder how in the world my father worked outside in the winter without a coat. It could be minus 20 degrees centigrade and there be Dad, removing snow, or perhaps chopping some wood—his coat thrown aside—wearing a shirt, a cap, and a pair of gloves.
“Aren’t you cold, Dad?” I’d ask. “No,” Dad would reply. “I’m not cold—working too hard to be cold.”
Many times I wondered whether my father was an extremely tough man, or whether he was foolish.
One time when I was quite young, perhaps five or so, I went ice fishing with Dad. It was a bright, clear day—and badly cold.
After we’d been out on the ice for a little while, my feet started getting cold. “Daddy, my feet are cold.” I said.
“Yeah, it’s cold out here today.” he replied.
“Tell you what,” he said. “Walk around. Make some circles in the snow. See how many different patterns you can make. That will get your feet warm.”
Now, I was just a little girl at the time but I remember thinking, “How in the world will walking around in the snow make my feet warm? Dad must be out of mind.”
But he was my father, after all. I made circles in the snow. I made squares. Pretty soon I was having so much fun making patterns in the snow. I forgot about my feet being cold.
Now, all these years later, I know, too, form personal experience how my father was able to take his coat off and work outside in the winter wearing just a shirt, a cap and gloves. Because I do it, too. “Aren’t you cold?” my husband asked one winter day. “No,” I replied. “I’m not cold—working too hard to be cold.”
I hope my husband has decided I’m both tough and smart. But I guess quite a bit of the time he thinks I’m foolish.
Wherever Dad is in that great big farm in the sky—I’m sure he can’t help but smile
whenever I take my coat off while I’m working outside in the winter. 61. When the author’s feet felt cold, he father advised her to . C If you could choose, would you rather be a genius(天才) or a common person? This was the question our teacher asked us after we watched a movie called Gifted. Honestly, it took me a while to think about the answer. But as it turned out , I was still not sure.
In the movie, a girl named Mary shows amazing mathematical talent at the age of 7 and feels bored at school. Her uncle Frank thinks that she should stay in her normal school. However, Mary's grandmother Evelyn believes that Mary is a genius who should be trained in mathematics.
The reason for their conflict comes from Frank's sister. She too was an excellent mathematician, but killed herself when Mary was six months old. She suffered from Evelyn’s pressure throughout her life. Frank doesn't want the same thing to happen to Mary. After many talks and fights, Mary goes to stay with Frank and takes college-level courses while playing with kids her own age. The story of this movie is easy to understand, but the theme it ties to express is very
controversial (有争议的). We can't say that Evelyn-style education is wrong. It can help gifted children to develop their abilities. But a natural gift can sometimes be a source of stress, as it can make children feel too different from kids their own age. If we show that their talent is too important, maybe it can lead to social isolation(隔离) and mental health problems. Many historical geniuses, including English mathematician Sir Isaac Newton and English writer Virginia Woolf, had similar problems. I'm glad that by the end of the movie, Mary finds a way to balance her talent and her childhood.

C. Mary can still play with kids of her own age a genius
A. Many geniuses have mental health problems. normal childhood.
69. According to the writer, what is the movie trying to tell us?
B. Children should have a D. Natural gifts can be
C. Mental health problem should be taken seriously. stressful.

During my first year of high school. I was a skinny boy who weighed just 55 kg. I dreamed of being a football star. I played a little bit, but spent most of my time on the bench. So I wanted to become stronger so that I can have more chances to play on the field. Over the summer, I searched a lot of information on the Internet and I found a special diet that bodybuilders use to bulk up. Drinking a lot of whole milk and lifting weights every day helped me add an extra 11 kg of muscle(肌肉).
By the time football season started, I felt ready. However, when I saw that I was still smaller and slower than most of the other boys, I was soon disappointed. I found myself on the bench again. That was to change during one of our first games of the season. We had built up a lead and the coach felt secure enough to send me in for a while to play halfback(前卫). I was so excited and dreamed to have a good performance.
As soon as I got on the field, I met with challenges. When the quarterback(四分卫) handed the ball off to me, I thought it was my time to show off. I ran quickly. However, I was soon hit by three of the other team’s players. They tackled me hard to the ground. It turned out that I was not ready for the games. I got up and walked off the field back to the bench.
Over the years, I have lost count of how many times I have dreamed of achieving something, only to find that the world had other plans. I hated this for a long time. I wondered why I never succeeded at my plans. It was not until I became a football commentator( 评论员) that I finally
realized that maybe the world's plans for me are better than my own.
