Personal Time Off(PTO)is something my wife and I created after having kids. We learned that, over time,a full life can leave little time for personal rest and for reflection, hanging out with friends,or just being“off. ”So,after a number of years,we make a change. If I can persuade you to take your own PTO,then these might help.

■Schedule it

First of all,one of our favorite family sayings is“schedule it. ”Sounds easy enough, but life gets complicated managing full-time work and full-time family. Put yourPTO time on the calendar and you make it a real thing.

■Be flexible and strict

If you can schedule PTO at the same time each week, then all the better. Because our calendar can get rather full, flexibility in scheduling becomes a necessity. But being strict in actually taking the time each week is more important. Skipping it once makes it easier to skip again.

■Take enough time

My typical PTO lasts a couple of hours or longer. Sometimes it might be half the day depending on what I’m doing. The goal is to spend enough time away to1et your shoulders drop.

■Do what you want to do

Remember,PTO time is about personal time to do what you want to do,not what you have to do. PTO time is about relaxation. Grab a friend and get a beer. Work can wait until tomorrow. 1.What can be the first step to take the PTO? A.Persuade the family. B.Have a personal rest. C.Ask friends for advice. D.Make a time plan.

2.What does the underlined part“let your shoulders drop”probably mean? A.Get you more focused. B.Have you feel relaxed. C.Shake your shoulders often.

D.Make you feel more stressed. 3.What does the text mainly talk about? A.Tips on how to take your time off B.Skills to manage work and family C.Advice on how to free yourself D.Ways of scheduling your work

Spain's tourism industry is looking to Chinese tourists for its high-endmarket, according to Rafael Cascales, president of the Spain-China Tourism Association (ATEC). “It is the kind of tourism that is not only interested in the sun, beach and the “all-included” culture. They enjoy culture, wine, history and nature, and the new Chinese tourists would also want to spend more money in Spain,\" said Cascales in a recent interview with Xinhua.

“They are younger, more women travel and they are more cosmopolitan (见多识广的).They also travel on their own or in couples or in smaller groups. The old-fashioned large groups of visitors have not disappeared, but this new form of traveling is becoming more important,55he said.

Speaking of the consumption pattern of the new kind of Chinese tourists, Cascales said, “The money they spend is distributed better because they will book one flight with one airline, the hotel with another company and the restaurant with another.” In his eyes, “Chinese tourists are very important because they combine two things: there are a large number of them and they spend more money than anyone else — almost four times more than tourists from other countries.\" They not only travel abroad in the summer months when Spain has to compete with the sun and beaches in countries such as Turkey and Egypt, but also travel in the off-peak seasons of a year, according to Cascales.

In 2017, Spain is the second most popular tourist destination in the world, only after France. It attracted about 82 million visitors, 700,000 of them from China, a number which is estimated to rise to about 2.2 million by 2022.

“We are ready; we have the infrastructure (基础设施) at every level, especially in hotel capacity. Here those visitors can find what they are looking for, including the luxury items which distinguish them,” Cascales noted. 4. What are the features of the new Chinese tourists according to Cascales? A. They are cautious about spending money in Spain. B. They are likely to travel in smaller groups now. C. They are only interested in the sun and beach.

D. They are mainly male visitors of middle age.

5. What can we learn about the consumption pattern of new Chinese tourists? A. They will reserve flights and hotels with different companies. B. They will spend less money than tourists from other countries. C. They will travel abroad only during the off-peak seasons. D. They will spend the money in different cities.

6. What is done to meet the demands of Chinese tourists? A. Local cultures in Spain are promoted. B. Well-furnished hotels are provided.

C. Best and expensive items are offered for free. D. More shopping sites are constructed. 7. What is the purpose of this text?

A. To introduce the tourism industry of Spain. B. To show Spain's desire to attract Chinese tourists. C. To describe the features of Chinese tourists. D. To advertise Spain as a top tourist destination.

If there is no difference in general intelligence between boys and girls, what can explain girls’ poor performance in science and math?

It hasbeen suggested that girls do not take math courses, not because they are difficult, but for social reasons. Girls do not want to be in open competition with boys because they are afraid to appear less feminine (女性的) and attractive (有魅力的).

However, there are still more high-achieving boys than girls when taking math exams. This difference appears to be worldwide. Biological explanations have been offered for this, but there are other explanations too.

Perhaps the difference which comes out during the teenage years has its roots in much earlier experiences. From their first days in kindergarten, boys are encouraged to work on their own and to complete tasks. Facts show

that outstanding mathematicians and scientists have not had teachers who gave answers.

Besides, there can be little doubt that teachers of math and science expect their boy students to do better at these subjects than their girl students. They even appear to encourage the difference between boys and girls. They spend more time with the boy students, giving them more time to answer questions and working harder to get correct answers from them. They are more likely to call on boys for answers and to allow them to take the lead in classroom discussion. They also praise boys more frequently. All of this seems to encourage boys to work harder in science and math and to give them confidence that they are able to succeed.

Such a way of teaching is not likely to encourage girls to take many math and science courses, nor is it likely to support girls who do. When it comes to these subjects it seems certain that school widens the difference between boys and girls.

12. Why does the author raise a question in paragraph 1? A. To find differences between boys and girls. B. To explain the poor performance of girls. C. To ask readers a question. D. To introduce the topic.

13. The text mainly discusses ________ reasons for the difference between boys and girls in scientific achievements.

A. biological B. personal C. social D. historical 14. What does the text say about great mathematicians? A. Their teachers did not offer answers to them. B. They started learning math at an earlier age.

C. They showed mathematical abilities in their teenage years. D. Their success resulted from their strong interest in math. 15. The author would probably agree that ________. A. boys and girls learn in the same way B. boys and girls are equal in general intelligence C. girls are more confident in themselves than before D. girls should take fewer science courses than boys 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

Jack and Rose were sitting face to face. At this moment, the landlord came in and asked, “Are you sure you do not rent the house any more?” He kept silent and she only shook her head. They were going to divorce, so it was

obvious that they would not continue renting the house any more.

Then the landlord began examining the house. After looking around,he screamed, “Goddamn! See how you have ruined my house? The walls are full of nails! How could I rent the house to others?\"

Jack said,\"The room is too small and can hardly accommodate all loads of our stuff. So we could only hang them on the walls.\"The landlord did not listen to him and turned around up to the floor.

Rose began looking around her familiar room. Four years ago, she became his bride here. On the night of their marriage, he felt deeply guilty to her, saying,“I feel so sorry for you for having you live in this small room. In the future I will earn a lot of money to buy our own house.”

The room was only 13 square meters with two nails on the wall next to the door, one for her to hang her bag and the other for hanging umbrellas. At that time, she threw all her stuff such as her bag and umbrella on the floor once she entered the room, staring at the whole mess and feeling terribly upset.

There were three nails on the left wall, on which he hung his clothes yesterday. After she lived in the room, he removed all the clothes boxes and bought her a desk in the spared room because he knew she loved writing and drawing.

There were four nails on the right wall that were used to fix their wedding photo frame. But now there were only four nails without the frame. She still remembered he got hurt on his fingers when trying to drive the nails home. It was her who pushed him to receive an injection against tetanus(破伤风)。
