Last summer holiday, I took a trip to Yunnan. It is in the southern part of our country. It is really a very beautiful place---grand mountains, clean rivers and kind people. Trees and flowers are seen everywhere. Every year there are lots and lots of visitors.

Maybe you have heard about Shi Lin (stone forests). There are all kinds of strange stones. Some of the small stones look like graceful girls; and the big stones look like handsome men. Other stones look like cats, peafowls, double-edged swords, mice, elephants and so on. Of all the stones, the stone like a beautiful girl in a legend is the most famous. Its name is A Shima. I also went to Li Jiang. The roads in that city are just like the Eight Diagrams. Any road in the city goes to the center of Li Jiang. A river runs through the whole city. If you go along the river, you’ll never get lost. There are many ethnic minority (少数民族) people in Yunnan. They are very cordial. And they all like singing and dancing. We danced with them around the campfire that night. I really had a good time.

I like the elephants and fruits there best. An elephant is even taller than me! I even mounted the elephant, though I was very afraid at first. But the elephant seemed very friendly. I took some photos with it. The fruits there are very fresh and delicious. They are very good for our health.

The trip to Yunnan impressed (给...留下印象) me greatly. I will never forget it. 21. Which of the following is not included in the advantages of Yunnan?

Have you ever considered all the English expressions that include words about clothes? Let's have a look.

People wear pants (短裤) to cover the lower part of their bodies. We sometimes say that people who are nervous have ants (蚂蚁) in their pants. Sometimes, people may get caught with their pants down. They are found doing something they should not be doing. And, in every family, one person takes control. Sometimes a wife tells her husband what to do. Then we say she wears the pants in the family.

Pants usually have pockets to hold things. Money that is likely (可能) to be spent quickly can bum a hole in your pocket. Sometimes you need a belt to hold up your pants. If you have less money than usual, you may have to tighten (勒紧) your belt.

I always praise people who can save their money and not spend too much. I really take my hat off to them. Yet, when it comes to my own money, I spend it at the drop of a hat, which means I instantly (立刻) spend it.

Boots are a heavy or strong kind of shoes. People who are too big for their boots think they are more important than they really are. I dislike such people. My father is an important person. He runs a big company. He wears a suit and tie, and a shirt with sleeves (衣袖) that cover his arms. Some people who do not know him well think he is too serious and never shows his feelings openly. But I know that my father wears his heart on his sleeve. 28. Which of the following expressions can show someone is nervous?

A. Get caught with one's pants down. B. Have ants in one's pants. C. Wear the pants in the family. D. Bum a hole in one's pocket. 29. If we say someone has to tighten his belt, we probably mean he ________. A. has done something wrong B. used to live a rich life C. has put on the wrong pants D. is short of (缺乏) money

30. Someone who spends his money at the drop of a hat most probably ________. A. doesn't save money B. earns much money

C. never wastes his money D. spends more than he earns (赚得)

31. We can use the expression \"wear one's heart on one's sleeve\" to describe (描述) someone who ________.

A. gets angry easily B. looks very serious

C. shows his feelings openly D. often wears a suit and tie

D

Very few people look forward to and enjoy exams. That doesn't have to mean that you should be afraid of them, though. The following tips will help you get through that terrible exam period.

Here are eight steps to help you during exams:

First, make sure you know how much time you will have in the exam and how many questions there will be. Then you can divide your time among the questions to make sure they all get answered.

Second, when you're doing an exam that involves (包括) long answers, it is a good idea to leave some space (空地) at the end of the answer so that you can add any extra (额外的,附加的) comments that might come to mind when you reread your paper.

Third, don't spend all of your time only on questions that you know answers to because you will get a worse mark for answering some questions very well and some not at all.

Fourth, it is worth taking a little extra time to make sure that your handwriting is neat. The examiner (考官) will be able to read it! Try to avoid spelling mistakes too! Fifth, the more prepared you are, the more likely (可能) you are to succeed. Sixth, keep calm. If you feel yourself getting worried, take a deep breath.

Seventh, don't try to discuss the exam after you've finished it. If you've got different answers from your friends, there's no point in worrying about it.

Eighth, once an exam is over, just forget about it. There is nothing more you can do about it. The best thing you can do is to go home and prepare for the next one.

32. The underlined word \"avoid\" in the passage most probably mean \"________\". A. check out (结帐) B. go over (复习)

C. think about D. Prevent (阻止) sth. from happening 33. You can get a better mark (分数) if ________.

A. you spend all of your time on questions that you are good at B. you talk about with your teachers before exams C. you go over your notes carefully for the exam

3

D. you leave out (遗漏,略去) the questions you don't know the answers to 34. The passage is probably written for ________.

A. people who mark (评分) exam papers B. people who take exams C. high school teachers D. language learners 35. This is likely to be selected (挑选) from ________

A. medicine B. education C. geography D. history
